#Review: Season 2, #The Voice Nigeria (Episode 1 – Blind Auditions)

Come with me on a journey to the second season of the reality singing competition, The Voice Nigeria. The second season of The Voice Nigerian premiered on June 18, 2017, on Africa Magic with Waje, Patoranking, Timi Dakolo returning as coaches and new to the red turning chair, Yemi Alade. Popular Nigerian presenter Ik Osakioduwa and on-air TV personality Stephanie Coker returned also as The Voice Nigeria 2017 hosts.

A recap of season one that saw Waje become the winning Coach ushered the audience and viewers to the first episode. Timi kicked off the coaches’ performance by giving a thrilling performance of his latest hit single, “Medicine”. Blazing hot and sexy Waje joined Timi on stage shortly to the tunes of “Coco Baby”, one of her singles that featured Diamond Platnumz. It was a hit performance as usual. With the medley of Coco Baby fading off, Patoranking started out his performance amidst the audience. He sang his new hit single

“This Kind Love” and received a “kingly” reception from the audience. The sound of the buzzer and swiveling red chair revealed our new Coach Yemi Alade. She unstrapped the lyrics to her hit single “Charlie” as she sashayed to the stage to join her fellow Coaches, all the time keeping in tune with her performance.

The first contestant to perform was Emmanuel Precious. He sang “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child. He received a rousing ovation both from the audience and all the coaches. The buzzer was sounded by all the coaches, but Precious chose Timi as his coach

. Next was the creative Zorah Julius, she sang “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande. Her performance was so outstanding that she heard the “I Want You” button pressed by Waje, Patoranking, and Yemi. The young lady thought it wise to go for the winning coach of the last season.

Up next was a 32-year-old tall dark guy. He did his best. Unfortunately, none of the coaches turned for him.
Gracing the show was the “bold and confident” Jahtell and her brother Jahnomso. Jahtell not only thrilled her audience but also got the buzzer sounded by Timi and Waje. She sang “Freaking Perfect” by Pink. Timi got her to sign an autograph for him and she chose Timi afterward.
Jahnomso delivered well “Fly Like an Eagle” by Seal and was lucky to get the “I Want You” buzzer from Yemi.
After an energetic performance, the 21-year-old Favour had the coaches’ backs still shown to her. She was complimented on her good voice and energetic performance but was hinted that she went off key. The coaches gave her a funny performance as a “consolation prize”.
The 31-year-old logistic manager, Ifeoma Onuh was accompanied to the show by her mother. She belted out so nicely the lyrics of “When You Believe” by Whitney Houston.
Afterward, she joined team Yemi after the buzzer was sounded by Yemi and Patoranking
.

Favour Idugbe, a 19-year-old Anatomy student that said she has no plans of doing anything with the discipline (I sure hope the lecturers are not watching), took the audience and the coaches to a rather exhilarating moment by her performance. She sang “Kilon Popping” by Miss Jaie and saw all coaches chanting “I Want You” by their buzzer sounds. She thought it wise to join Team Patoranking. Hmmmm! Favour, I hope that was not out of sentiment considering you said earlier in the show that you have a crush on Patoranking. Afolayan Afolabi, a calm natured handsome young guy was accompanied by her sweet Mom to the show. He unstrapped the lyrics of one of my favorite songs, “I will make love to you” by Boys to Men. That would have been his last performance on the show save for the buzzer button that was pushed by Patoranking.

Up next was a light tattoo skinned guy, with a unique voice and uncommon style of performance. Actually, he was one of my favorites.
However, the long-awaited buzzer sound never came, rather he received a lot of “You have a great voice, but…..” kind of comments from the coaches. Olarewaju Omowa joined team Yemi by default since she only had Yemi sound the buzzer to her favour. She delivered beautifully “That Stupid Song” by Bez.

The Voice Nigeria airs on Africa Magic Showcase Channel 151 and Africa Magic Urban Channel 153 at 7 pm every Sunday.
