Africa Magic’s ‘The Voice Nigeria Season 2’ Finale

FINAL DAY ON THE SEASON V2'VOICE NIGERIA'...
Hits.......
The Voice Nigeria Season 2’ climaxed with a shocking season finale. Broadcast live to millions of homes on Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Urban, the night opened with the top 8, Jahtell, Idyl, J’Dess, Wow, Ebube and Yimika, performing alongside their coaches.

Thereafter, the result of the voting was revealed in phases. And all male quartet of Wow, Syemca, Ebube and Idyl emerged as

finalists, shocking disgruntled social media fans who expected vocalist, Jahtell to be in the running for the top spot.
In the end, Wow placed fourth while Syemca took the third position, leaving Ebube and Idyll in contention for first. Bayelsa born, Daniel Diongoli, popularly known as Idyl, defeated Ebube to clinch the grand prize of a recording contract with Universal Music, GS4 SUV and an all expense paid trip to Dubai.
I had the opportunity of being a part of the studio audience and here are my hits and misses of the night.

Timi Dakolo’s heart wrenching group performance. Coach Timi supported by his talents, Jahtell and Idyl, gave an emotional performance of his new song ‘Find You There’ dedicated to the memory of Eric Arubayi and Belema. From the lyrics to the delivery, we were reminded why Timi is still relevant a decade later after bursting to the music scene courtesy of a singing competition.
The hosts. Ik Osakioduwa and Stephanie Coker Aderinokun were in top form. They looked every inch the part with two costume changes. Their delivery together was smooth and in sync. Each of them worked the camera with their infectious personality and flawless presentation.
Production values. From the stage craft to the studio audience, ‘The Voice Nigeria’ scored an A+ in delivering a superbly produced show. The live show was on point and kept to time.
Wow’s rendition of ‘Fada Fada’ by Phyno. Just like his name, he wowed the audience with his energetic performance which had everyone on their feet and singing along. An entertainer to the core, this is only the beginning of greater things for this consummate musician.

Idyl. The man of the night stayed true to his sound with great song choices; ‘You Suppose Know’ by Bez ft Yemi Alade and ‘This Time’ by John Legend. His vocal interpretation of both songs proved why in Waje’s words, “Idyl is the real deal.”
....Song choices. Syemca performed ‘Back to the Matter’ by Maleek Berry ft WizKid, while Ebube sang ‘Come Closer’ by WizKid featuring Drake. While these are great songs in their own right, for the season finale, the contestants needed to have shown off their vocal chops, the show afterall, is all about the voice.
